It has been a very, very long time since my last blog post but today I have something new I wanted to write about.
For those of you who have read my middle grade books, you will know that loss and grief is a central theme as if the power of friendship. And if you have read my previous blog posts you will also know that I don't really have a say in this - the characters just do what they do, and I just write it down.
At different times, over the past few years, I have found another character has taken me in a totally different direction and the journey is fun and full of adventure.
'The Many and Varied (and sometime peculiar) Adventures of Buttons McBray' is a junior series that I have been working one and has been sitting in a folder one my desktop for far too long.
A couple of months ago I was out walking the dogs and was thinking about what it was I could do with Buttons and her best friend Tilly and the little manuscripts they appeared in. At almost the same time I had been talking with a friend about my website needing an overhaul or something new - and there it was. An idea.
Now, there are many things I can do but web design is not one of them. But I think I have started something that I can work on over the next few months.
So, here's the plan...
Today I have added an introduction to Cape Primrose, where Buttons McBray lives. There's a map and a short chapter that details how the township began.
In the coming weeks, if all goes to plan, there will be more chapters added of the first book, 'The Cape Primrose Show' and so the adventures of Buttons McBray begin.
Who have I written this for - well, first it's for me. I enjoyed it so much that after I finished the first book, I wrote another three! And I put together a spreadsheet.
But really it's for junior readers who I hope can find their way to it.
Oh, and there will be illustrations (not done by me - I am a paint by numbers type artist). More on that when they arrive.
If you have a couple of minutes, click over to the Junior Book Project tab.
Welcome to Cape Primrose.
